KiteArea : Where do you come from?
Sander Lenten : I come from Noordwijk, Netherlands

KA : Where do you live?
SL : Currently I live in Mesa, Arizona. This will be until
Feb and after that I don’t know where I’m going to live.
KA : Did your friends give you a nickname?
SL : No nickname here…
KA : Do you prefer fish or meat?
SL : I’m a meat person, but I won’t say no to sushi
KA : When did you start Kitesurfing?
SL : I started kitesurfing in summer of 2002

KA : What are your favourite spots (at least
5)?
SL : My favorite spots and I have to mention
at least 5, Lets see…
I really like several spots in Holland
Virgin
Islands have some awesome spots.
Paros, Greece (nice blue water and there is
wind almost every day)
Cumbuco, Brasil (love the combination of flat water
and waves)
Isla Coche, Venezuela (just for the riding tough…)
KA : What is the best spot for you?
SL : The best spot for me would be warm water and warm
weather. Flat water on the inside, where you can have an awesome slick session
and set up a nice park. Waves on the outside peeling in a perfect A. With the
wind from different directions and velocities, so you don’t get demotivated.

KA : What are your best results in competition?
(per year)
SL : 3rd KPWT Dunkerque
2nd KPWT
Greece
KA : What brand do you use in Kitesurf now (Boards
and kite)?
SL : I use the Flexifoil Ahpro kites…
sizes 9, 11 and 13m2. I think they’re absolutely awesome! Definitely the best
ones out on the market right now. I use Balance boards, from the first time I
tried them I was sold and it really fit me and my way of riding.

KA : Can you give us your feedback on this or these
brand(s)?
SL : As I said on the previous question,
the brands are absolutely awesome!
KA : Who is the rider who inspire you most in
Kitesurf?
SL : There is of course my little
brother Ruben Lenten. He just keeps amazing me with the radicalness factor he
puts into his riding. And then there is Aaron Hadlow, Whom I know from the begin
part of his career. I saw him change a mold the sport into what it is today.
Think of some thing impossible in the sport and he’ll prove you otherwise. It’s
just eye candy to watch these guys ride!
KA : Are you a fan of a pro rider and if so,
who?
SL : I’m not really a fan of a pro rider, but
I do admire some people’s riding.
KA : Can you tell us about your best personal
travel?
SL : My best personal travel was with the
destination: St. Thomas (USVI). It is a little Island next to Puerto Rico and
its beauty is unbelievable. There are so many things to do, apart from kiting.
It’s amazing!
KA : What is the move you are working on
now?
SL : I don’t really have 1 move I’m working
on. It depends on what the day brings me and I work with that. I love going big
in strong winds and I get more technical in lighter winds.

KA : In what style of kite do you excel?
SL : I did freestyle trough most of my kiting career, but I
also enjoy waves and sliders, but just didn’t really get the opportunity to do
that a lot.
KA : When you do not kite, what do you
do?
SL : Currently I’m studying to become an
airline pilot, so when I’m not kiting I’m flying.
KA : 2010 is coming quickly, what is your program
for this new year?
SL : In 2010 I finish my
studies and will be looking for a job as a pilot, but other then that I will be
doing small events/competitions and be more focused on photoshoots, as I came to
discover that I really like doing that.

KA : Ecology and sustainable development are
increasingly present even in the kite, what is your point of view on this
subject?
SL : My opinion on ecology, is that it’s
super good that we do show that we care about the planet we live on, but I also
think that we started way too late on realizing the necessity of keeping the
earth “green”. I mean we got so used to doing it “the wrong way” and it is hard
to put that extra effort into a change for good, rather then doing what you know
and are used to.
